Frequently asked questions.
What airport should we fly into?
You’ll want to fly into Los Cabos International Airport (SJD). It’s about 35–45 minutes from most resorts in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.
Do I need a passport?
Yes! A valid passport is required for all international travelers entering Mexico. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates and contain at least one blank page for entry and exit stamps.
Can I bring a laptop to Cabo, and what happens if I bring more than one?
As Mike learned, each person can bring one personal laptop into Mexico without any issues. If you bring more than one, Mexican customs will charge an import duty of about $200 USD per additional laptop, so we recommend limiting yourself to just one.
Will transportation be provided?
Transportation will be provided for most events, including the welcome party, ceremony, and reception for guests staying at Montage Los Cabos and Bahia Hotel & Beach House. For airport transfers and any additional outings, guests are responsible for arranging their own transportation. We recommend booking through Optic Transportation, directly with your hotel’s concierge team, or Uber.
To book reservations with Optic Transportation, email reservaciones@opticpt.com and reference our wedding code: Murrell-Shriner Wedding

You can expect warm, sunny, and dry weather, perfect for an outdoor celebration. In early May, daytime temperatures usually reach the low to mid-80s°F, with cooler evenings in the high 60s to low 70s°F. Rain is rare this time of year, and skies are typically clear.
What should I wear to the events?
Welcome Party: Festive attire—think vibrant colors, linen, and fun prints.

Recommended Restaurants?
We highly recommend all the on-site restaurants at Montage Los Cabos. If you’re looking to venture off property, Flora Farms and Acre are two of our favorite spots. Both are about 40 minutes away in San José del Cabo and are known for their farm-to-table menus and beautiful outdoor settings. Reservations are strongly encouraged.
If you’ll be spending time near the Bahia Hotel, we also recommend dining at Edith’s, La Lupita, and The Office, as well as treating yourself to a relaxing massage at the Sand Bar.
What’s the tipping etiquette in Los Cabos and is a service charge usually included?
Tipping is appreciated in Los Cabos in either pesos or U.S. dollars, with typical guidelines:
Restaurants: 10–15% if service charge isn’t included. Most places automatically add a 15–18% service charge (“servicio”) to your bill. If a service charge is already listed, tipping extra is optional.
Hotel staff: Bellhops: $1–2 per bag; housekeeping: $2–5 per day; shuttle or cart drivers: $1–5 depending on service.
Is the tap water safe to drink?
We recommend drinking bottled or filtered water. Most hotels, including Montage and Bahia, provide bottled water in guest rooms and common areas.
What currency is used in Cabo?
The local currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN), but U.S. dollars are widely accepted. Credit cards work at most places, though small cash is handy for tips and local vendors.
Is there cell service/Wi-Fi?
Most resorts and restaurants offer Wi-Fi, and many U.S. phone plans work in Mexico.Check with your provider about international coverage.
Do I need a power adapter for my electronics in Los Cabos?
If you’re traveling from the U.S. or Canada, you do not need a power adapter. Los Cabos uses the same standard voltage (110V) and plug types (Type A and B) as the U.S. and Canada. Guests from other countries may need a plug adapter or voltage converter.
Are there any Spanish words I should know while in Los Cabos?
While many people in Los Cabos speak English, it’s always helpful to know a few basic Spanish words. Common phrases like hola (hello), gracias (thank you), por favor (please), and baño (bathroom) can go a long way. You might also find it useful to know la cuenta, por favor (the check, please), agua (water), cafe con leche (coffee with milk) and cerveza (beer). Don’t worry if you’re not fluent, just making an effort adds to the experience!
